Truebreeding Strains

The first section of this page features true-breeding strains which will reproduce true to type from their own seeds, so different generations will share similar characteristics. True-breeding strains are either:

Pure-breds: traditional land races that have only interbred with similar strains and so have almost identical genes.

Or

Stabilized Hybrids: Hybrids that have been created by breeders but then continually inbred until their characteristics are Stabilized from generation to generation. Very few strains are Stabilized hybrids as this takes considerable time for breeders to achieve.

All true-breeding strains are therefore ideal for using as parent plants when creating new F1 hybrids.

Skunk No.1

True-Breeding Strain

Skunk No. 1 was the first true stabilized Hybrid to enter the Dutch Cannabis greenhouses. Sacred Seeds created it in the late 1970s from Afghani Indica, "Acapulco Gold" Mexican Sativa and Columbian Gold Sativa.

For the first time this Strain provided growers with the good taste and high of a sativa coupled with the quick heavy flowering of an indica. Having been successfully stabilized, Skunk No. 1 has been widely used as a breeding parent for most of today’s leading "skunk" and many other strains. It is very easy to grow and has always been seen as a standard against which others can be measured.

It produces dense buds varying in colour from light green to golden with a very high yield. It is easy to Manicure due to its high bud-to-leaf ratio. It has a sweet smell and taste with a Cerebral high.

South African Sativas

The next collection of seeds below are South African Sativas.

The cannabis of South Africa is recognized worldwide for its quality, yield and effect. The plants are nearly all Sativas, but finish flowering as early as September in northern latitudes. They are tall and elegant looking with long slender leaves and pale green buds. They often develop pink and purple tones at maturity. They tend to have a sweet yet spicy flavor and an alert mentally stimulating high.

F1 Skunk Hybrids

The next collection of seeds are F1 Skunk Hybrids. Skunk No. 1 was the Strain that revolutionized Cannabis culture in Holland. It gave consumers another choice over hash and Nederwiet (literally ‘low weed’). Skunk No. 1 was the first Cannabis Strain in Holland to regularly mature and to consistently produce high yields of potent buds when crops were grown from seed.

Skunk No. 1 is a three-way Hybrid combination of a Colombian / Afghan Hybrid and a Mexican Acapulco plant. This combination was inbred in California for many years until it was fully Stabilized. Although Skunk No. 1 is a quarter indica, which contributes to its branchiness and compact Bud structure, it is primarily a sweet-smelling sativa Hybrid. Despite its general uniformity, there are several different types of Bud that can appear on Skunk No. 1, ranging from red, hairy buds with small leaflets to large leaflets with copious Resin glands.

F1 Haze Hybrids

Original Haze is a late maturing Strain that was created in Central California. It is a pure sativa stabilized Hybrid created by Crossing the best females with a male of a different imported sativa Strain each year. Plants from the resulting seeds grew to resemble that year’s father plant. Original Haze therefore varies in taste from Thai citrus to a deep spicy purple Colombian flavour, made famous by Jimi Hendrix in his song ‘Purple Haze’.

Haze has been available in the Netherlands since the early 1980s. Increasing levels of connoisseurship led to higher prices for the exotic and flavourful (but later maturing and more costly to produce) Haze hybrids in preference to the redundant array of Dutch Skunk / Northern Lights type. Original Haze’s popularity is still increasing.
